Trojans News · Which region’s high schools had the strongest NFL Draft? – Presented by VNN

The NFL Draft took place last week in Philadelphia. Held on the Rocky Steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, it was the first draft held entirely outdoors, and was the most attended in history with more than 250,000 people attending. Over three days, all 32 NFL teams chose players who they hope could be the future of their franchise.

In the next few pages, check out all the players drafted by their hometown high school, and vote for the region you think has grown the strongest draft class!

Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team Defeats New Castle For Historic Win – First Win As a Varsity Sport at BHS

The Boardman boys varsity lacrosse team won their first game of the season last night by defeating New Castle 15-4.  The win was a historic one because it’s the first year that lacrosse is recognized as a varsity sport.  Scoring goals for the Spartans were Nic Quimet with 4, Devin Whitaker with 3, Dom Barber, Mitch Brunko, and Colin Frost with 2, and John Beck and Alex Wood each scored one goal.

Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Lady Trojans Are NCL Champs

The Varsity Girls Soccer Team won their final regular season game yesterday over VASJ 6-2 at St. Francis Field. With the victory, the Lady Trojans captured the North Coast League White Division Championship for the second year in a row. On Senior Night, during which seniors Elena Falcione and Daniella Flores were honored, Elena scored for the Trojans along with juniors Grace Hayes and Kaitlin Lightner, sophomore Rachel Trent and freshman Madison Lightner who also scored.

The girls will now enter the OHSAA Tournament starting next Wednesday, October 19th at Mapleton with a game time starting at 7:00 pm.

Multiple Teams · Varsity Volleyball Wins On Senior Night

The Girls Varsity Volleyball Team and the seniors were victorious last night defeating Warren JFK 3 games to 0. The scores of the games were 25-15, 25-13 and 25-10 as the team was led by all of the seniors. Becca Nehal with 5 kills, Hannah Wulff with 21 assists 3 kills and 2 aces. Megan Dawson had a great night all the way around the court with 7 kills, 3 aces and 4 digs. Nina Starks and Noelle Kontur also contributed with 6 kills. It was a great game for the Trojan Seniors to end their high school careers at home.

The Lady Trojans travel to Independence tonight for their final regular season game. JV starts at 5:00pm, followed by the Varsity at 6:15 pm.

Trojans News · Sadar Represents Trinity at DII Sectionals

On Tuesday, junior Noelle Sadar was the first ever Trinity golfer to compete in the Division II Girls Sectional Golf Tournament at Punderson Golf Course. Even though Noelle did not qualify for District competition, she represented Trinity very well shooting her season best 18-hole score of 114. Noelle is also a member of the Varsity Cheerleading squad and will run Cross Country this fall.

Last night, the Varsity Volleyball team defeated Valley Christian 3 games to 0. The scores of the games were 25-20, 25-20 and 25-21. The team was led by senior Becca Nehal with 13 kills and 2 blocks. Junior Jackie Giulivo had a great night at the net with 4 kills and 3 blocks. Senior Hannah Wulff added to the offensive side with 20 assists and 4 kills. Junior Morgan Martin led the team defensively with 22 digs, 3 assists and 1 kill.

The Lady Trojans (6-7, 4-2) travel to VASJ for a triple-header tomorrow (4:30 pm start) and are back at home on Monday, October 3rd against St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Girls Varsity Volleyball Team lost another close match Tuesday night to St. Thomas Aquinas 3 games to 0. The scores of the games were 24-26, 17-25, and 19-25. Senior Megan Dawson had one of the best nights serving with 17 service points. Her serving in the 3rd game brought the Trinity team back from an 8 point deficit to tie the game at 18. The team was led offensively by junior Clare Foley and senior Megan Dawson with a combined total of 7 kills and 5 blocks. Junior Morgan Martin led the team defensively with 16 digs. Senior Hannah Wulff and sophomore Sarah Metz had a great night setting with 20 assists.

The Lady Trojans (4-7, 2-2) travel to Warren JFK tonight for another NCL match.

The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams ran yesterday at the Springfield High School Invitational. Several individuals had excellent performances including junior Carli Sparks, who finished in 2nd place, senior Luke Jefferson, who finished in 3rd and sophomores Andrew Gudz (8th) and Emily Zoeckler (12th). Overall, it was a great outing for the Trojans.

The Trojans travel to Niles, Ohio this Saturday for the Niles Cross Country Invitational. The boys run at 11:00 am followed by the girls at 11:45 am.

Multiple Teams · 17th Annual Mid-Season Invitational

The Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams hosted the 17th Annual trinity Mid-Season Invitational at the Garfield Heights Metro Parks. Junior Carli Sparks had an outstanding day finishing in 2nd place overall. Sophomore Emily Zoeckler finished in 22nd place. On the boys side, the boys team finished in 6th place out of 9 teams. Senior Luke Jefferson finished 15th and sophomore Andrew Gudz was 20th.

The girls and boys travel to Boardman High School on Saturday, September 17, to compete in the Spartan Invitational.
